I have tried to view .wmv movies with Firebird 0.7, Moz 1.5 & 1.6b. I've gone to their Plug-In site, and followed the directions carefully. I have even used a suggested/more compatible viewer (In View) listed on mozilla.org. I've even tried to add a new 'helper app' using the MIME settings. When I do that, I get a warning box from Mozilla telling me there is no need to do this because Mozilla already has a plug-in to handle the .wmv format. :?
All to no avail. :x
No matter what I have tried, when I attempt to open a .wmv file in Mozilla, I get no Win Media Player or In View player. All I get is a browser window full of random ASCII characters.
What am I missing? Hopefully something obvious?

Sounds like mozilla is treating the link as another webpage instead of a streaming video link. I personally don't have this set up on my browser so I can't give you a definite answer. However you may want to try right clicking the link and saving it to disk. And then running it off of there. Not really a solution but should confirm what's going on.
EDIT:
Just did a quick search on google and confirmed my suspicions

These guys seem to be trying to workaround the problem:

Yeah, my searches came up with basically the same thing. Guess I'll continue to right-click-save until they get the *&#^$! MS thing worked out.
Thanks, Mr. Gates.

AK, if you find a fix for this let me know. I've been using Mozilla for a long time and have always had to "save as".

If I find something, I'll post it. :sigh:
Guess I'm not getting my hopes up, though.

I use Mozilla because it's better than IE. I use WMV because other people insist on using it. :P  :P  :P

Mozilla rocks because its built-in pop-up killer is the best ever made. I only get pop-ups that the website generates as a result of me clicking on a link no unwanted ones.

Yes it does. It does not by default you have to change it. Its in the options somewhere and called: Block all unrequested pop-ups. So the ones you request still show up and you can always add sites to your ok list that Mozilla will allow pop-ups from as well.
I have been using Mozilla for about 8 months now and have recieved a grand total of 1 single unrequested pop-up. All others were ones I requested. And believe me with all the pr0n sites I visit thats a damn good job.

you suspicions are correct... you must right click save.... pain in the ass but if you prefer the pop ups move to something else that allows you to view inline... :)
