And

"1. Music capacity is based on 4 minutes per song and 128Kbps AAC encoding.
2. Do not eat iPod shuffle

and what purpose does the mini mac serve apart from looking unbelievably pretty? :?

iPod shuffle: a new gimmick to keep the iPod dreams alive. Basically, buy a Creative MP3 Player...

It's half a cube. You will buy a cube shaped computer! You will!
$499 wouldn't be bad for an HTPC. Sry - HTMAC.

If only they had some good multi-media software . . . :swg:

Pretty cool... not sure i need one for anything, but pretty cool nonetheless. Once again Apple comes up with some slick designs.

You make it sound like the iPod is in trouble rather than being one of the most successful computer products ever.

LOL, I had one but I gotta say I wasn't impressed. It's a lot of hype in my opinion, it's cool to be seen with one so you gotta get one even though the battery life sucks, the capacities are inferior, the prices are ridiculous and there are so many rumours (which I don't personally believe) floating over it. Now I got a lovely Creative Zen Xtra 60GB. It's not as compact or as sexy as the iPod but I prefer it. I end up charging it once a week now instead of once a day as I did with my iPod.

How early a model did you have? I'm not very impressed with just about ANY mp3 player, but I gotta say the iPod doesn't seem any worse than the others. Of course, I don't need music constantly beamed into my brain. It's called, "thinking," and some of the kids in my Chem class should have looked into it before accepting admissions at GW.

Even though it looks nice, I think it's kinda a step backwards for Apple. I really liked what the did with the imac, integrating components to reduce the mess on the desk. I wish Apple would go this route (http://www.directron.com/zpc2021.html) and make it look a little bit better.... Seeing the tiny size of this new thing, I could also imagine having it as some sort of "snap-on" module to attach it to the monitor - with keyboard and mouse being wireless and thus allowing for them to be moved out of the way in an instant...

EDIT: After finally getting to the Apple site, I happened to find where this little thing would fit in perfectly:
Perfect for Programmers

Set a space-saving Mac mini atop your workstation PC and add a KVM switch to share keyboard, monitor and mouse.

I don't know where it's CPU ranks, but being able to do all photoshopping and whatnot on the Apple while still having a Wintel system for everything Apple (-software) can't seem to catch up with WITHOUT the need for 2 big huge cases doesn't sound too bad.

The Apple mini is the perfect stealth machine. I hear Apple is working on a wireless monitor. If that's true, then you could simply put an LCD and bluetooth keyboard and moust in your living room for those IMDB lookups while watching DVD's... or for TrackPass.

Even with only an 80 GB drive, it would be a pretty darn nice home mail server.

Some pics of the Mac Mini's tiny motherboard. (http://www.macnews.de/gallery/displayimage.php?album=16&pos=18)

Seems like you could install one of these in your car pretty easily.

now i understand the single ram slot and need for laptop hdd 8O

sweet looking though... about time they start utilizing both sides of the circuit board
