Not really sure how many people support the idea, but everyone I've mentioned it to seemed for it. Here goes, how about a password on the public TS channel? Something simple, like 'BF' or 'DC' / 'FH' (respectively)? We could (and by 'we' I mean 'the admins who always have to interrupt their gameplay to warn/kick/ban/mute the smacktards who have nothing better to do than try to get under somebody elses skin') post the password in the same message that lists the TS address. That way, the only people getting on TS are the people actually playing the game. This would get rid of the kids out there just fishing for channels to log into and play porno music or blast feedback into the microphone. Having the password in the same message as the address would ensure that any biped smart enough to read the message would be able to get into TS if they so wished, without the nightly disturbance of "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!!!!!!!!!!" or the inevitable "Unhhhh, yeah, mmmmmmmmmm, that's the spot, keep ..." well, you get the picture. That way, the only vulgar comments you'll hear are from the others on TS. :D
So, whaddaya think?

It must be late on at night when these things happen, because I hardly see any. The occasional one, but I've only ever had to ban two people.

Late at night is when the trolls come out to play.

Yeah, I am thinking the public aspect of the channel causes more problems than it solves.

Posting a password to the forums would be an option. At least they'd have to go one extra step to be a troll. That would likely weed out the opportunistic trolls.

Another option would be to put the password in a registered user only section of the forums. This would require them to register in order to get in to TS. Kind of defeats the open door ideal but...

Ah, but we already have our 'protected' channel with the 'not-so-secret-password-that-everybody-here-knows'.

You could even post the password as a server message. At least we would limit the pool of 10 year-olds to those actually playing the game, not trolling for IPs running TS.

Over all I see the amount of tards trolling TS on the rise of late. It's about 9pm PST when these tards start there fun. It's not a big deal to alt-tab and kick. Normally I just kick them as I save my bans for the really "special" folks like the two guys on Friday night that thought is was cool to start droping N-bombs. I mentioned this issue on the admin forums as I do really see the value in a public TS server. I don't know of anyone that has joined our "group" because of the Public TS. Most of the new folks are friends of friends. I would recommend killing the public TS altogether as even with one channel public we have had folks exploit the TS server. With all that said, if we keep the TS server public I will be more than happy to continue to kick, ban, and slap these tards around.

Just a note. I wanted to thank Iggy "again" for hosting the server and for enabling so many admins. Last I counted we had about 7 TS admins and thanks to Angry "I just banned them" Kid who has been handling the major load of banning/kicking on TS.

Seems like most people come on as Guest1. Is there anyway to ban the name Guest? I didn't see a fourth option on the poll for "Just screw Pork".

Seeing's how Sem lives lives in a town where the expression "You got a prudy mouth" is a invatation for a date. I can see why he would want that 4th option. :D :D :D

Hmmmm, posts seem to support the idea, votes go against it. Could some of you who say 'leave it as is' clarify your reasoning?

Ah-ha!
I see that VSFGamers Teamspeak is listed as a public server. In other words, it shows up in the Web Server List as an unpassworded server (with people on it). That thar's yer problem! De-publicize that mutha! Then, you'll only have to contend with the clans currently engaged with NV in guerilla warfare!

Agreed. It would take at least some level of effort for them to come get the password. If you still get smacktards at least they will have had to work for it. :D

That should have the same effect as a password. Thanks, Iggy, I didn't know that it was an option. Oh, yeah, thanks to you too, RuperT.

Made some changes to the forum and the TS server.

First, this section of the forum is now hidden unless you are a registered user and logged in. That will at least limit who has the password.

Second, I moved all the channels back under the member's section so they can only be accessed with the members password. Now only the lobby is public so unregistered users or those without the password can still use the server but would need to come here and register before gaining access to the members section. There is a message in the lobby channel description providing them information on how to join.

Hopefully these changes will cut down on the idiots. If they continue to get through then the only solution may be to go back the system Naz had in place where he would PM people the password. Either that or every user we could make it so that every user allowed access to the members section would have to use a valid registered username and password.

Comments? Did I miss anything?

Only that Roland thinks the problem with TS abusers is overblown..

Otherwise your solution is a good one.

Except for the causing Roland to have to write down the new password because he is old and his mind is slipping......
Chalybos thinks that Roland's thinking that "the problem with TS abusers is overblown" is different from the 'late night' crowd because Roland generally isn't on after 11:30, when the kiddies come out to play. Chalybos can't count the number of times he's had to put up with the feedback screech, porno loop or just plain smartasses who like to jump in and start yelling and cursing at people for no other reason than to be a pain. The yelling and cursing should be reserved for members who have just died.

I don't think the problem is overblown at all. At least once a night there would be some loser on there. It's a good thing that some of the more offensive stuff hasen't occured when any younger members were online. The porno loop was probably the worst I have heard, not to mention the guy taunting us over the track. I hope the the new changes fix the problem, removing the server from public listing has seemed to do quite a bit.

Yep, there weren't any intrusions last night, and it was very pleasant. That way, I had no distractions as I was pwnd repeatedly on Lost Village.

Ok, Roland submits!

Once again, he regrets wading in and expressing his opinion.
Never regret airing your opinion, Roland. That's something you've always stood for. But we have different times that we play, generally, and therefore different experiences.

OK, maybe it's me. What is the password for TS. Either post it or PM me, not that I can play anytime soon. I tried the "vsfgamers" but that didn't work. And remember, I'm just a truck driver, so, say, it, slowwwly. :D
